Our Story

A Legacy of God’s Faithfulness

When Dr. S.K. and Emily Clanton came to rural northern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina in 1937, they couldn’t have known that God intended to use their two-week tent revival as the catalyst for what we know today as Grace Covenant Church. That outreach from Charlotte’s Garr Memorial Church became the foundation for Cornelius Tabernacle, under the Clantons’ leadership. Four decades later, the renamed Grace Covenant Church became part of The Foursquare Church.

Farrell Lemings is the fifth lead pastor in the church’s 80-year history accepting that role in 1995. God has blessed Grace Covenant with a church family that has grown and diversified with the burgeoning Lake Norman area. Grace currently welcomes more than 2,400 worshipers in seven weekly services at its three locations.

The church’s 22-acre Cornelius campus, adjacent to Interstate 77, was purchased under the visionary leadership of Dr. Glenn Burris, Jr., who recently retired as president of The Foursquare Church. Some years later in 2000, Grace Covenant launched worship services in a new facility there, and Grace Covenant Academy (PreK-5th grade school) began in 2001.

At the time, no one could have anticipated the explosive growth that took place with the new location. After adding a third Sunday morning service, a second construction phase became necessary to “make room for more.” The current facility became fully functional in 2005.

In 2011, Grace Covenant expanded to our current multi-site and virtual campus. You can experience the Cornelius worship services live each weekend through Grace Online. The entire worship service is streamed live Sundays at 9:15 and 11am.

In our desire to reach more people for the gospel, an East Lincoln campus began to meet at Sally's YMCA in Denver, NC. After 4 years at that location, the Lord directed leadership to pursue a permanent location for this campus. In April 2016, the campus relocated to a permanent site at 296 N Hwy 16 in  Denver, NC.

In 2015, Grace Covenant Statesville, a former church plant, reunited with Grace Covenant as an extension campus. In May of 2018, they moved to a dedicated facility at 531 N Greenbriar Road in Statesville, NC.

All of our campuses have live worship and a similar message, a safe and welcoming environment for our children and youth where they are encouraged in age-appropriate ways to develop a vibrant relationship with Jesus, and groups where adults can grow through fulfilling relationships.

Our focus remains evangelism, discipleship, and extending the compassion of Christ into our community.
